About Loanminty
An independent site about the characters everyone remembers, built by people who think the antagonist is usually the most interesting person in the room.
Loanminty exists because most villain lists on the internet are the same twenty names in a slightly different order, with a stock photo and two sentences of description. We wanted something you could actually use: a database you can filter, rankings you can re-sort, profiles that go past the obvious, and a stated reason for every placement.
What is on the site
- 97 villain profiles spanning film, television, comics, animation, anime, literature and video games, from 1897 to the present.
- 12 ranked lists, each built around a single question with published criteria and a written justification for every entry.
- An interactive hub where any ranking can be filtered by medium, era or archetype and re-sorted by any of six scored attributes.
- A comparison arena for putting two characters head to head on all six attributes.
- A villain duel, a twenty-character knockout bracket that ends in a podium decided entirely by you, plus a personal ranking you can drag into whatever order you like.
Editorial independence
Nobody pays for placement. No studio, publisher or developer has any input into what appears here or where it lands. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed clearly on the page in question.
How we work
Every profile is written from scratch. We do not republish plot summaries from other sites, and we do not generate lists from aggregated scores. Production trivia is checked against primary sources, and anything disputed is either flagged as reported or left out. On the artwork
Every image on this site is original artwork commissioned for it. We do not use screenshots, promotional stills or fan art of the characters we write about, because those belong to their rights holders. Instead, each of the ten villain archetypes has its own atmospheric piece, and characters are illustrated by the archetype they belong to. It keeps the site legally clean and visually consistent.
